Did you know that ...
On February 15, 1965 a United State postal stamp was issued to commemorate the centennial of the Sokol Movement in our country.
The stamp honored the Sokol century of uninterrupted training of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
This was indeed an honor! We are now well into our second century. |
Sokol New York not only teaches children how to enjoy gymnastics, but also how to teach gymnastics. Just ask our Junior Instructors!
Each year scholarships are given to worthy Sokol Youth Members who are at least fourteen years old to attend our National Sokol
Instructors' School!
At the course they learn the Sokol system which includes valuable teaching skills such as spotting and progressions. Congratulations to our most recent graduates!

The first Sokol was founded in Prague on February 16, 1862 by Dr. Miroslav Tyrs.Sokol New York was established on October 13, 1867. We have occupied this very building since 1896! Architecturally, it is very much the same as back when we moved in.
Sokol is the Czech word for falcon chosen for its power, endurance, and keen perception.
NaZdar, which you may hear at the end of your Sokol class, translates to mean "on to success".
Members of the American Sokol Organization refer to each other as Brother and Sister. |
